Pop singer Miley Cyrus (formerly of Hannah Montana fame) has revealed she is working with Producer Andrew Watt (Ozzy Osbourne, Post Malone) on an album full of Metallica covers.
Seem crazy? Check out what the pop star has to say:
"We’ve been working on a Metallica cover album and I’m here working on that. We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited."
Miley, 27, has said she has "such a healthy and sexy relationship with recklessness right now. I can say yes to anything.". Evidently, that is exactly what she is doing: Whatever the hell she wants to do. Miley Cyrus started her career at a young age, introduced to the music industry by her father, "Achy-Breaky Heart" singer, and former mullet-man, Billy Ray Cyrus. She has made no secret of her love for hard rock and heavy metal, having covered tracks by Chris Cornell, Led Zeppelin, and even Nine Inch Nails at live performances, but has predominantly stayed away from covers on her albums, this will be a departure for the "Wrecking Ball" singer.
Cyrus continues; "It would take something really fucking crazy for me to say no. Wayne [Coyne] really opened that door for me, because I was on the Bangerz tour at that time, where I was traveling the world. Your levels of fulfillment and depression are so drastic, because you’ve got that two hours where you’re fully captivated and reaching your fullest potential, and then when you come down from it, it’s so hard. Having him and having that psychedelic music changed everything for me.”
In this video, Miley Cyrus covers Metallica's famous song, "Nothing Else Matters" at the 2019 Glastonbury festival, which shocked and confused music fans everywhere, but also showcased a type of vocals we have rarely seen from Cyrus in the last decade.
We are waiting patiently to find out what songs from the biggest thrash and metal band of the century have ben selected for the final track listing. Will Miley delve into the emotional side of Metallica's softer songs like "Fade To Black," or will she explore her wild side and pick heavier numbers such as "For Whom The Bell Tolls" or "Blackened"?
We can only wait on pins and needles to find out what will happen with this project, but one thing is for sure: Rock and Metal fans will be divided in their reception. But, we must keep an open mind. This is how music is created, and evolved upon. We appreciate Miley's courage to take on such a high-profile concept, and look forward to releasing more information as it comes to us.
